A person cannot choose their sexual orientation. The Bible has never been nor shall it ever be an authority on psychology.

While race isn't equally comparable to sexual orientation, why are you asking? If a person chose to be a homosexual and homosexuality is a sin, does it make it OK for us to make degrading remarks against them? They need Jesus' love just as much as anyone else. Is that how we are to show our love for them by calling them names, beating them with our Bibles over their heads? Why is it that we will accept an adulterer or a drunk into our congregations, but not a homosexual? Is their sin greater than that of those who cheat, or lie, or curse?

I am not saying that we should endorse their sin, but I am definitely saying that we are called to love them, to share in their struggles, so that we can understand better what they are going through and they can understand where we are coming from and that we really do have the answer.

There are some sins that are extremely difficult to overcome. Homosexuality has got to be one of the toughest ones. It may be a conscious choice at some point of time, but once you are in that lifestyle, it is very, very difficult to get out. Do you think most homosexuals wanted to be homosexuals? Do you think they wanted to be persecuted for their lifestyle? No, of course not.

So please don't take this lightly, they can't just flip the switch on this, the only one who can is God, and you certainly aren't going to win them over by calling them names.

Take care and God bless.

Let's assume for a minute that one can choose sexual preference. (which is not true.) The answer to your question, even with the assumption, is "God is the Creator and the
Supreme Judge.....He alone will decide our place in
eternity!"

Any time someone says that a behavior can be simplified into a gene, i laugh. This must mean that a dog has a 'fetch gene'. Behavior is learned.
People just want to justify themselves, and I have seen gays compare themselves to blacks! Even insulting base questions using the N word! But hey, I'm not responsible for anything I do, i have a 'irresponsibility gene', or maybe it's a 'bigot' or 'homophobe' gene. I prefer to think that I can see things without having to lie to justify something I am doing.
Something that people find offensive, and I do anyways.
The absolute proof on this issue is the fact that people can change. Anything that is genetic is an unalterable part of us.

You cannot choose who you are attracted to. Ask any woman married to an abusive man. They know they shouldn't be with him, but they feel so strongly towards him they can't break away.
Attraction is a chemical response. Those who are gay cannot just up and change this response.

As for the homosexual slur thing- when you call someone a racial slur, you are acting out your perceived dominance over that person. If you call a black person a n*gger you are essentially saying "I think I am better than you and so I can use this language without being punished."
When you insult gays, you are doing the same thing. A slur doesn't have to be racial to be bigoted.

And so, perhaps instead of being so ignorant, you could find a better use of your time.

Because unlike you, I know that sexual orientation is born in the person. I have a good friend who is gay, and like other gay people I have known, all say they never had a choice in the matter and they were born that way. In fact several of them (not all) have said it like this: "If you knew that the world would revile you for your homosexuality, why would you want to be born that way? I wish I could have been born straight!"

Therefore any attacks against the person for issues the person is not in control of are equally evil, including slurs against Alcoholics, against those with Hemophilia, Color-blindness and Diabetes, or even those with bad metabolic disorders who cannot keep weight off.

I've never heard anyone say the word homosexual was like a racial slur. There are slur about gay people and that's not one of them. No one can choose their sexual orientation. Did you choose to be straight? Nope. You were born that way. It's not the middle ages. You saying choosing your sexual orientation is as old as the theory of blood letting to cure diseases. Live & let live and stop preaching to people who have no affect on your little life.

Racism and homophobia both involve irrational disgust against people for the way they are. They both lead people to mistreat others and see others as "less human" because of their different-ness.

Let's ignore the choice argument. Would you say that slurs against Christians are hateful, similar to slurs against blacks? I think they are.

It's never a good idea to attack a person or some characteristic of a person. We are all human beings, and deserve a chance to be reasoned with and have a civil discussion about our views.

You can choose your behavior, yes. But you can NOT choose your sexual orientation. Being gay doesn't mean having sex with the same sex; it means being attracted to the same sex. You can't control attraction, just how you act on that attraction. So, sexual orientation is the same as race in the sense that both are not a matter of choice; only behaviors are.

A person can no more choose his/her sexual orientation than choose their race. You are dead wrong in believing that it is a choice. God doesn't exist, and if you like the idea of other human beings being judged and thrown into hell, you need to seek professional help because you are using your religious delusions to justify your bigotry.

Gotta agree with you on that one. There is a movement in the mainstream media that for some time now has attempted to change societies view and acceptence level for deviant behavior. I am old school, and define "deviant" from a traditional view point. Some do not share my sense or propriety and differ with me on points of ethical and moral behavior. I do not consider homosexuality a "life style" any more than lying or stealing are "life styles". I conside it a sin.
