Also what are the current rules on what hand luggage u can take on board?

You can ONLY take 1 piece of hand luggage on board from the UK to anywhere and the amount of liquid allowed is limited to 1 small clear plastic bag.
I don't know about coming from the US to the UK however.

One item of hand luggage weighing less than the airline's weight and size allowance. No sharp or flammable objects. No single container of fluids containing more than 100ml to be placed in a clear plastic bag; the total not exceeding 1 litre.
