Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
The emphasis is on the latter part of the verse which references light. God is light and so is His word.
The candle is symbolic of this glorious light.
In Orthodox Churches only candles made with beeswax or beeswax and olive oil are used because they contain no toxins. And because of tradition going back hundreds of years.
Candles made from paraffin or animal byproducts are just as toxic as 2nd hand smoke.

It doesn't say in the Bible that you need to have candles. My church doesn't have any candles at all,and the only church that I've *ever* seen do this was a Catholic one.

Because, historically churches did not have electricity; they used candles for light. So as time passed, the candles just became traditional.

The catholics and some others do (not all churches).
The bible doesn't.
I'm a christian and never use a candle (except birthday cakes and the power is out).
I know many who don't.

It is used as a visual reminder of Christ's light and that we as Christians are supposed to be the light of the world. At the beginning of service Christ's light is brought in and at the end it is carried out. Just like we are to carry His light out into the world.

Because the preachers are too greedy with the money they take from church goers to pay for electricity!

it doesnt - but they sure get you in a more serious contemplative and maybe even spiritual mood now, dont they ;)
There is a reason why they are traditionally made from beeswax though: and that is because bees work together for a common goal: and that is suppossed to remind us to do the same.
