Depends on your definition of "easier"
If by easier you are talking about the material, usually the answer is no.
Even with distance learning programs that use the exact same materials as the public schools, the work load is more intense because you do not have the "benefit" of a teacher skipping parts or assigning extra credit when you bomb something, things like that.
My daughter uses a program like that and when her PS friends come over that are in the same classes at the highschool, they are always amazed at how much more she has to do than they do.
Other programs are advanced, and a lot involve a lot more reading.
Now, if by easier, you mean "quicker" then the answer is usually yes.
The beauty of home education and distance learning and all those other things that fall under the umbrella of homeschooling, is you can learn at your pace. you are not moving at the pace of a classroom of 20 other students. You do not have "slack days" when your teacher is absent and you have a sub that "assigns" a movie to watch, or gives you free time (happens every day)
So, if you are looking for easier material, then it probably will not fit you. But if you are looking for a faster solution, then it will work nicely for you.

If you think getting a diploma online is easier than just going to school then you're lazier than a dog in the hot July sun. Anyone who doesnt have a life circumstance that warrants them from actually going to school is just being plain lazy. Some folks out there need the experience of going to class and interacting with a teacher and communicating with other students.

Actually, in my experience, they are more difficult to get a diploma through. You have to, for the most part, be able to teach yourself. Accredited online schools feel they have to prove that they are not diploma mills. They have to keep up with the states requirements for education. Time-wise, yes, you can finish sooner, but academically, I feel they are more challenging.
