Why not?
Learning a foreign language can broaden your mind, open it to new and stimulating ideas. It can give you an understanding of another culture and way of looking at the world. It can even deepen your understanding of your own country and language.
English is an off shoot of old low German, if I remember one of my English classes right. But it is heavily influenced by French, Latin, Greek, and Gaelic.
If you know even a little of those languages (particularly Latin and Greek) you can sometimes decipher words you've never seen before and figure out what they mean.
I just wish the study of foreign language had been encouraged when I was young enough to pick them up. Now, I have a hard enough time with English!

There are many reasons to learn a foreign language. 1) It is in their heritage. 2) They plan to visit or live in a different country. 3) They feel it will make them a more well rounded individual. or 4) They find other cultures and languages interesting and stimulating.
