In Islamic countries, there is no choice in the matter. You are born, you arrive at an age where you can understand your parents ... then it begins. Hello Allah.
Religion flourishes where there is a distorted education system (where religion is a major and compulsory element of the curriculum and where it is 'wise' not to ask any awkward questions), where there is widespread poverty, where there are regular natural disasters and yet, taking the Philippines as one prime example, there is also a very high crime rate and corruption at all levels.
In Western Europe, aside from crime levels, of course, the situation is quite stable. Education is relatively religion-free, poverty is barely noticeable, health is very good and there are few, if any, tornadoes, earthquakes, typhoons and so on. As a consequence, the population do not need an imaginary father-figure in the sky to protect them and atheism is gaining ground very quickly. Of course, the opposite is true in Saudi Arabia, even though it is a rich country. Try being a local there and NOT being a muslim ... a very dangerous choice.
The muslim holy book DOES teach that murder of non-believers is a good thing.
Thankfully, from my personal experience in the United Arab Emirates, there are very many broad-minded Arab muslims, among which I count quite a few as true friends, even though they know full-well that I am an atheist.

To sum up. IF children were NOT forcibly indoctrinated into believing all this god nonsense but were introduced to religion as a debatable topic at an appropriate age AND given access to both points of view AND allowed to form their own opinions, religion would very quickly die out.
Islam would take a little longer, as the above suggestion just isn't going to be allowed.

Islam is a very beautiful religion. It is a way of life. It was the first religion to give women their freedom and their rights. According to Islam women are equals to men. It is also the fastest growing religion. The quran has not been changed not even once, not even a puctuation mark. It is still in its original format.
It is being brought down by politics and the media. It scares them that the followers of the this religion run the oil grounds.
There are many myths that are portrayes by people that don't really know islam. WE DO NOT WAGE WAR IF PEOPLE DO NOT CONVERT. It is against our religion to do such a thing. In the quran it states that we wage war on those that attack us, and we can only attack army members. We have many verses that give us rules on war. If we have caught any hostages we are to treat them with respect and to feed them. We are also not to keep them for long periods of time.
People need to do research, they need to read the quran. Bin Laden and Sadam are in no way portraying islam in its true sense. They are wrong. Some islamic kings are also wrong about the religion they set bad examples, and use islam to complete their personal agendas.
All I can say is don't be ignorant and go and look into that which you don't know from its original source.
