From all I've read about salvinia molesta it can grow in almost any environmental conditions. It is a tropical water weed but can survive freezing conditions and start growing again when it warms up. It can survive salinity almost to the point of sea water. It has over run most of the waterways of Australia and can even survive for several month when the water dries up in the dry season.
