A cockatoo is a much larger parrot. Cockatoos are about the same size as a macaw. Both have crests, but coloring is also different. Generally, cockatoos are white, white with yellow(sulfur) crests, black, or white with pink(salmon) crests. Cockatiels come in grey, yellow, white, and a few other colors. The males also have red cheeks at maturity. Cockatoos are also much more vocal than cockatiels. They speak words more clearly as well. I find cockatoos to be more friendly as well. You can get a tame cockatiel for around $100, but a cockatoo will cost you around $2000 and upwards.

A cockatoo is a largish (not quite mcaw size), generally white bird with a black beak and yellow mohawk feathers. A cockatiel is much smaller, only about the size of a dove, generally grey or bright yellow in color with orange spots on the cheeks.

The cockatoo is related to the cockatiel. It is obvious by viewing the 2 different breeds of birds, the difference between them.

Cockatoos are larger, and only come in white, and they are much more talkative. Cockatiels are smaller (like a big parakeet) and very few actually mimic vocal patterns. Most of the 'tiels will instead mimic through whistling. The 'tiels require much less time and attention than the 'toos.
hope that clarifies
