Having HIV+ status means that you've been tested and it's been shown that you have HIV antibodies. This in turn means that you've been exposed to the virus and that you now carry it in your body. At this stage, a person is most likely asymptomatic (without symptoms) and this can continue for years.

When this stage ends and symptoms appear, it's now considered AIDS. You would continue to be HIV+ -- that will never change.
