we have a mexican girl 23 years old that has been working for us for the past year. she speaks no english at all. she works 11 hours a day and is the only mexican there along with my mom and cousin. i try to converse with her to keep her from being bored but conversation is somewhat difficult. i know some spanish because i took 3 years in high school. we had some decent conversations before and i try to talk to her everyday. she only speaks when i talk to her and never talks to me. she is not a shy person. when i stand next to her it feels awkard like she is trying to avoid eye contact with me and she looks uncomfortable when im close. should i just stop trying to speak to her.

It's clear she is somewhat confused, or more timid when you're trying to converse with her. She either has a crush on you or she's terribly repulsed by your presence.

Hmmm~, for whatever reason she's seeming uncomfortable around you-maybe just for your own sake, you should back off a little bit. I'm sure you're not being overbearing with trying to converse with her, because it seems you are making good nice efforts and being the only person practically to have converstations with her. If she's still shying away and/or quits talking to you all together, dont waste your time...she may just be weird in her own ways (anti-social) or just not comfortable with communication with others. If she wants to talk to you, she will-but while you have been very nice and courteous to her so far, if her feeling/acting weird makes you feel weird-id suggest jus leaving her be and go about your business until she comes to you. good luck!

one thing about Mexicans ........ we are tough to work and not to play, maybe she is worried about doing a good job and not wasting her time chatting.......... we don't like to get fired ;p but i am sure she would like to have a chat after work . just an idea i dont know her.

I would be nice to her but I would back off a little, for some reason she feels threatened.

She might think that if she says something wrong you will tell her boss and get her fired. Maybe your saying things you don't think you are. It might offend her.
