They should dress modestly, according to the Bible. Specifically, the Bible says several times that women should not wear gold or pearls, and that they shouldn't braid their hair.
1 Peter 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel
1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array
(Incidentally, the Peter passage is preceded by "ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands", and the passage in Timothy is followed by: "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." Guess we know what sex the authors of the Bible were.)
The Bible also says that women are not permitted to dress like men. (Though it doesn't specify what this entails. Are blue jeans an abomination against God?)
Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

The Bible is not that specific. But I Timothy 2:9 says "Likewise I desire the women to adorn themselves in well arranged dress, with modesty ans soundness of mind... in the way that befits women professing to reverence God." The point is that you should dress 'modestly'. So there's nothing wrong with wearing shorts or tshirts or skirts. But if your top is showing off your belly button piercing, or your pants are so short that people can see your thong, or if guys can see your goodies when you bend over because your skirt is so short, you may want to make changes.

It is very vague because it just says be modest. That could mean all sorts of different things depending on what culture you are living in.
It does say they shouldn't appear to look like men, which would be a transvestite or something. I think modest would mean, nothing hanging out.
If it draws attention to you and not to who you represent (the Lord) then it is probably not modest. If you find pants or jeans in the womens section then it is most definately not mans apparel.

what does the bible say about how women should dress? Let's see, cover up your hair, dress like a nun, no pants (it is men's clothing) and nothing that makes you look pretty lest you tempt a man.
What's wrong with this picture? The bible is about sexist views against women. That's why i don't understand females who taut it. For goodness sakes, wake up and smell foul play !

There are guidelines that Paul indicates he thinks make sense. There are no absolute dress codes, except that in general, 'modesty' is the optimal choice for men and women.

The Bible speaks on modesty for women, and while Paul specifically listed some things as inapropriate ( braids, jewelry, etc.) that was in accordance with the traditions of the day. Such things in his time would have conveyed prostitution or an ostentatious enjoyment of wealth. Women today must consider what they wear and allow their consciences to lead them in their choices.

As stated in many of the verses quoted by others above, your faith in God/Christ is what will let you see "in your own heart" and follow it. I have been a follower of Christ since the age of 13 and no matter how many churches I have attended or joined, there are always those who have a "holier than thou" syndrome in looking at your "outward apprearance" than your "inner walk". Each church/religion is different! Each takes parts of the Word and establishes a belief or doctrince based on scriptures, but many religions subvert it to meet what they feel is their interpretation. My own example is of my very long hair. I cannot tell you the times I have been told that it is not right for a man of the Christian faith to have long hair!! You would be a better example to others if you cut it. I have had arguements, though not heated, start in Sunday School classes, choir practices and church services. Most all in a loving and kind manner! I find it all comforting, in a way, that I am causing a stir amongst the "brethren" where I ask them point blank, "So, you are judging me on my outward apperance? Does not the Bible say to 'take our the plank in your own eye first?'" And I always wear coats and ties with slacks!! So yes, there are verses in the Bible that say for you to be modest in your appearance but do not let others dictate to you on "what you must wear". You will find in your own heart what God wants you to do.....asking guidance in prayer.
