The sacraments of Christian initiation—Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist—lay the foundations of every Christian life. "The sharing in the divine nature given to men through the grace of Christ bears a certain likeness to the origin, development, and nourishing of natural life. The faithful are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by the sacrament of Confirmation, and receive in the Eucharist the food of eternal life. By means of these sacraments of Christian initiation, they thus receive in increasing measure the treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity."3

Baptism is in fact initiation into the community/family of God. Galatians 3:26-28 (around there) talk about becoming a child of God and being clothed with Christ. You literally look like a child of God.

Many societal groups and mystical religions of the 1st century had various initiation rites. Many of these things where secrets and were not to be revealed.

God's entrance into his family he made clear, that it was through FAITH and IN BAPTISM that what is intiated in the the IN CHRIST group or a part of the body of Christ. (hence being clothed with him). Some of the best texts that relate to the communal aspects of Christian faith and also the intiation aspects of becoming a Christian can be found in the letter to the Ephesians and Colossians. Becuase such mystery cults were well known in the cities of Colossae and in Ephesus.

Baptism is the first step in becoming a member of the Church. It is the first Sacrament of Initiation, followed by Confirmation, and Eucharist. Once you have recieved the Sacraments of Initiation you are in full communion with the Church.

It shouldn't.
Inititation sounds very Man-Made.

Baptism is a personal deep experience where you recieve the Holy Spirit.

Some religions use baptism as a committment to their religious organization. THey place requirements upon you for the opportunity to be baptized which actually just means to join their organization and swear undying loyalty to it.

Please be weary of any group that using baptism in this way.

This is a pre-requisite to be able to be found worthy on the day of Christ return.
You must be reborn out of water(baptism) and spirit(receiving of the holy spirit).
