Democracy "We" doesn't refer too the atheist minority nor to an individual but to the Believing (in a god.) majority of unsaved Americans who will like the atheists go to hell when they die without Christ! "Except they repent."
As for separation of church and state: there is no violation. If the coin endorsed being a Baptist or a Catholic than it would be an issue, but "In God we trust." is a generic statement which means different things to different people. "There is no freedom from religion" in our Constitution.
PS why don't the atheists get all pissed off about other blatant violations of the constitution such as "fee-et paper" and the like. We haven't followed the USC at lease since Jackson why should we begin now?

Well let me teach some basic history to answer your question.
US currency did NOT say "In God We Trust" and the Pledge of Allegiance did NOT contain "One Nation Under God" until the start of the Cold War and was an effort to separate ourselves from the "godless communists"
So you could say that maybe the government could go back to the old school style of money...call it Dollars classic...you know like coke.
It never should have been put in, should it be taken out...technically yes but there are WAY bigger problems to address b4 we argue over this.

No, they should just remove the phrase altogether. It isn't insulting just to atheist. Every religion of the world is represented in this country. All forced to use money printed by our government sanctioning one true "God" for the whole country.

For Kimmie. The men on the coins and bills were long dead when the phrase was placed in money. It didn't get there until 1956. And, contrary to what I am sure you have been taught, many of our founding "fathers" were not christians. Even the, fairly unanimously, greatest president in history, Lincoln, was an atheist. Try learning a little real history for a change.

In making money as to the coins there is a ruling or law that covers it. It can not be just change as you suggested. you can make your own money/coins and have it be circulated, if it will be accepted, you atheist without God. Put it this way: In Atheist we trust, okay?

Are you asking whether we should go back to the way we used to print money before the religious right and the conservative came up with the bright idea that "Commies" wouldn't want to say or touch anything with "God" on it?
Heck yeah, one more step to get religion out of government.
Most of the guys on our money had nothing to do with putting "In God We trust" on money.
In 1956, the Cold War was in full swing, and the anti-Communist suspicion of the McCarthy era was at its height. Partly in reaction to Communism (which was commonly associated with atheism despite being merely devoid of an official religion), the 84th Congress passed a joint resolution to replace the existing motto with "In God we Trust." According to United States Code, Title 36, Section 302, the new motto officially displaced the original 180 year-old national motto "E Pluribus Unum" (Out of Many, One) when President Eisenhower signed the resolution into law on 30 July 1956.
***************************************************
It is just too funny that most of the people saying No to taking "In God We Trust" seem to think that our money has always been like that. PAY ATTENTION IN CIVICS CLASS PEOPLE!!!

They just did! The new one dollar coins.
Some of the dollars did not have it on the coin, but "In God We Trust" and other information is on the edge of the coins. By the way, if you find one that does not have it on the edge, hold on to it, right now they are worth $50/ea.

Yes of course, and that is the only money they can use since they don't believe in God, and the believers get all the bills with " In God We Trust" on them.

The men on the coins put the phrase on there for a reason. If you don't accept them you can force them out of circulation.
God is the reason we are ALL here. And this is an outrage if you ask me.

Why not? With the fact that the dollar was taken off the gold standard it is becoming as empty as a God based religion. I think it fits quite well personally.

No. Polls say no. If they don't like in God we trust then they are not supporting the government and if they don't like it they can leave and have a choice to go where God is not blessing.
Funny how people want the things of God without the God of the things.
