Apparently nothing works in Mexico. If you want it to work you'll have to sneak it across the border into the US.

yeah umm..you will never find it even if the GPS works. There are no cities or towns in mexico called portaviarta....There is Puerto Vallarta. You should know its a loooooonnggg trip. The roads are worse there so you make less time than you would here. Dont forget you will kill a few hours getting a permit for you car and mexican insurance runs about 10 bucks a day. There are also alot of tolls between our border and puerto vallarta. about 10 tolls that range from 4 dollars to 13 dollars. Also, the police will want money when they pull you over.

The GPS probably wont work past 200 miles into mexico. Lucky for you there are not many many roads to get off track. and there are only like 2 cities between the border and PV that you might get confused in. If you do get lost, you are screwed because NOBODY speaks a word of english there.

But Mexico is awesome if you knwo a little spanish

To expand a little on Sister Hazel's correct but curt response.

The Gllobal Positioning System is an United States military navigation system which works from a world-girdling constellation of satellites, usually around 29 or 30, all put up there in our exo-atmospheric sky by your hard-earned tax dollars.

So buy a reliable machine and enjoy. Much as those pesky Mexicanos woiuld love to jam the system to invading 'Bandidos Yankis', they can't.

The only possible concern is that it is a military system and civilian use is courtesy of the Pentagon, and they have the capability to reduce and/or deny access to the rest of us. This usually only happens when the US decides to invade, bomb or otherwise totally annihilate some unsuspecting country, which fortunately only happens about once a year.

So go forth into the land of Zapata, take plenty of Immodium, and have fun, try to visit places like Tajin, it's a Mayan site and incredibly well preserved. It's near Papantla, at the entrance to the site there is an enormous pole, and there is a show they call the 'Voladores'. It's a must see.
