Does it matter which version of the Bible we use?

If so, explain why we should or shouldn't use a specific version of the Bible.

All are acceptable except the New World Translation which is of the devil.

If you're just starting out, I'd suggest getting an NIV. They're easy to read and based on a large number of sources, unlike the King James. Don't get one of those Life Application Bibles though. Get one that just has the scriptures without a lot of application advice. Most Christians use a couple of different ones. I like the NIV, NASB and a Greek interlinear as well. I have others, but those are the ones I like the best. God will impart truth to you, you don't have to "pick the right one."

The biblical verses not versions should be used on a daily basis .Do you not understand the Bible ?Pray for knowledge ,go to church or bible study. You dont just close your eyes and pick and chose what part of the Bible to use. Some pastors say Psalms is loved by alot but the other scriptures shouldnt be avoided. But for starters we all could start over with the 10 commandments we learned when we were little!Just my opinion.

The only English Translation that's any good is the KJV, if you read German the Luther Bible is a good translation. If you can read that old-time cornic Greek you do well, but than you have to go and learn Hebrew and Chaldean and a bit of Aramaic. (Abba)
Go get a Bible on CD for the computer, take the KJV and the NIV and compare to the Greek, with the exception of untranslatable words (the KJV has these in boldface since 1611) the KJV is word for word with the Greek the NIV or any other Bible (English popular translations) are not go compare for yourself. Most Americans like the NIV because they are illiterate and don't like to learn, lets face it the KJV is the best translation we have in English. I am not against using an NIV but its not always accurate any open minded and open booked person can see this.
You have it backwards the KJV is based on the "Textus Receptus"-that's what Erasmus used 2500+ manuscripts in agreement (save for spelling variants.) the NIV "1" Alexandrian text, Homers Iliad "5" text sources. Learn what you talking about by investigation not what your pastor tells you to think. The Scripture is infallible your priest and or reverend is not, you religion is not infallible. Question those that lead you.

The New International Version (NIV) is very easy to read and is a good translation. I would recommend staying away from so-called study Bibles that have a lot of commentary embedded in the text. Commentaries are fine, but should be separate from the scripture. Having them embedded like that seems to imply an authority they don't necessarily have. You're probably going to hear someone say "only the King James Bible is the word of God," but that's not true. The gospel is clearly stated in the NIV, NASB and most other translations. Listen to the first poster though, that's not an accurate version. God bless you in your study!

Use whichever one you like. God has maintained the Bible so that no matter what translation you use, you can find the truth--some just take a person a little longer but the truth never leaves.

It doesn't matter. If you want to study probably NIV is best....if you're just reading for a story, try the Message. (it's a paraphrase but it's in Modern English)...The New Century is very good too.

Go read the original texts as that's where it all began. Most all versions have been modified and misinterpreted from those texts.

NKJV suits me the best. Best thing is to ask the Holy Spirit which version you should use.

it matters only if you have eyes to see and ears to hear, the versions are versions, the truth cannot be hid from those who see
