Hi Jen,
Write down all of your fears on paper. See which ones are real and which ones are not. This will help dispel many of the illusionary fears.
Next look at each fear and decide what you want to have in its place. If you are worried about people laughing at you, what would you prefer their response to be?
Then you can write an affirmation or positive statement out that strengthens your desired response. Just focus on one thing for 7-14 days and keep saying your affirmation and keep focusing in every situation on you being the way you want to be.
Spend 10-20 minutes a day relaxing and visualising yourself being the way you want to be and really feeling yourself performing this new behaviour and feeling fantastic because of this.
After 7-14 days you will notice changes in the way you are and then when you are happy that the new behaviour is unconscious, i.e. a part of you, move on to the next fear and deal with that.
That will help you to permanently get rid of your fears and be more confident in yourself.
Drop me a line if you want any more information and all the best with it.

A lot of times athletes will use the following method to help their performance but it can be used by anyone for most anything.
Take a few moments at night before bed and find a nice quiet place. Find a comfortable position, relax, and close your eyes. Visualize yourself walking, talking, and acting more confident.
Picture an upcoming event in your mind and get very detailed with your thinking right down to what you will wear and conversations you'll have. The goal is to visualize yourself doing well so much that after a period of time you'll actually begin to act out those thoughts.
The best way to find self-esteem, in my experience, is to find a way to realize that you are no better and no worse than anyone else. The best way to gain confidence is to learn to rely on yourself. Until you are truly put to some significant challenge and rise to the occasion and overcome it, you'll never know what you're really made of.
That's where the best self-esteem comes from - finding out just how strong, or smart, or creative you really are. Sometimes day to day living offers you these challenges, but for most people it takes finding something they're passionate about.

In Hinduism, people hypnotize themself by acting as the medium of god. If this is not a scam, you can read this material...

I don't credit them highly, but I do sometime believe them.
Be careful before you try doing that. When you are entered, they said, there is no turning back.
I think the best way of hypnotize yourself is doing meditation. If your mind is strong enough, you will not fear anything. Because meditating teach you to concentrate on only one object at the time until you can thoroughly understand it, when you are concentrating to why do you fear, I believe you will understand it.

I do not know much about self-hypnosis, but I guess you can just read a book about it. If you can't find anything on self hypnosis to boost your self esteem try som sayings you do over and over and over again in ur head. like write on ur calander a little saying like, "I am a confident woman because I..." and fill in the blanks.
I know this doesn't answer you question but I hope it atleast helps with something =)
