Unless I'm making Boston Creme Pie from scratch, here's what I do:

1 yellow cake, baked according to its directions
2 pkgs vanilla pudding (instant) made according to its directions
1 pkg semi sweet chocolate chips, melted over a double boiler.

When cake is cooled, you should have either one very thick layer or two normal ones. Cut them equally horizantally to make 2 to 4 cakes. Spread some of the filling on the bottom layer, add a cake layer and repeat, ending with cake. Melt your chocolate chips and pour over the top of the cake so that it runs down the sides. Enjoy!
