the vegetarian diet is a bunch of hype. there is absolutely zero medical evidence that shows the vegetarian lives longer or is more healthy or has a better quality of life.

Meat is not the only source of protein. Rice & beans combined are a"perfect" protein, eggs - protein and then there are protein shakes at juice bars or in the store to be mixed with juice or milk. Vegetarians do not delete protein just meat & some also delete dairy products. Thank goodness for soy!

Perhaps your last statement answers your question.
If being a vegetarian is detrimental to your health, it
seems a bit foolish not to include a little balance
in your diet...such as meat which is a natural source
of iron. Not iron tablets.

Perhaps you do not eat meat for religious reasons.
I certainly respect that. However, I would also consider
that religion teaches that we take care of our bodies.
In that case, I would refer you to your minister, pastor,
priest, or rabbi. Ask him for a solution.

Try Green vegetables like Cabbage, Cauliflower, Broccoli,Spinahc et al.
You'll find that if you want to substitute your Meat-Iron, after becoming a veggie, then you'll have to find alternate ways to keep stable your Iron intake.
Greens never fail.
