The Archangel Michael said "the Lord rebuke thee" when Satan challenged him. Also, Jesus is called Lord in the Bible, and rebuked demons often. So why do certain religous groups such as the Jehovah Witnesses believe Jesus and Michael the Archangel are the same?

Jwplaster you completely misunderstood the question. I'm not asking if Jesus and Michael are the same. I'm asking why certain religions believe they are, so I can understand how they've arrived at such an error. Please read a question slowly before passing judgment.

Ignoramus_the_great those are excellent points presented in the article you posted. I simply can not understand how anyone could logically mistake Michael for Jesus. It's mind boggling.

Here is a website that takes the position that Jesus is not Michael. Very interesting analysis.

While there is no statement in the Bible that categorically identifies Michael the archangel as Jesus, there is one scripture that links Jesus with the office of archangel. In his letter to the Thessalonians, the apostle Paul prophesied: “The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel’s voice and with God’s trumpet, and those who are dead in union with Christ will rise first.” (1Â Thessalonians 4:16) In this scripture Jesus is described as having assumed his power as God’s Messianic King. Yet, he speaks with “an archangel’s voice.” Note, too, that he has the power to raise the dead.
While on earth as a human, Jesus performed several resurrections. In doing so, he used his voice to utter commanding calls. For example, when resurrecting the dead son of a widow in the city of Nain, he said: “Young man, I say to you, Get up!” (Luke 7:14, 15) Later, just before resurrecting his friend Lazarus, Jesus “cried out with a loud voice: ‘Lazarus, come on out!’” (John 11:43) But on these occasions, Jesus’ voice was the voice of a perfect man.
After his own resurrection, Jesus was raised to a “superior position” in heaven as a spirit creature. (Philippians 2:9) No longer a human, he has the voice of an archangel. So when God’s trumpet sounded the call for “those who are dead in union with Christ” to be raised to heaven, Jesus issued “a commanding call,” this time “with an archangel’s voice.” It is reasonable to conclude that only an archangel would call “with an archangel’s voice.”
Yes, there are other angelic creatures of high rank, such as seraphs and cherubs. (Genesis 3:24; Isaiah 6:2) Yet, the Scriptures point to the resurrected Jesus Christ as the chief of all angels—Michael the archangel.

Sounds like you need to read your Bible and make your own decision. Do not take your soul so lightly as to belive what others tell you to believe. Pick up your Bible and be responsible for your own spiritual development. After you have done that ask questions, then go back to confirm or disprove the answers you were given.

When anti-Witnesses resurface from time to time with this argument, they seem reasonable only as long as one ignores the actual bible truth.
Do the Scriptures themselves ever show Jesus rebuking Satan, even one time? Or does Jesus allow his Father to "make the reply"?
(Proverbs 27:11) Be wise, my son, and make my heart rejoice, that I may make a reply to him that is taunting me.
(Matthew 4:1-4) Jesus was led by the spirit up into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil. ...the Tempter came and said to him: “If you are a son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” But in reply he said: “It is written [by God]...
(Matthew 4:5-7) Then the Devil took [Jesus] along... and said to him: “If you are a son of God, hurl yourself down... Jesus said to him: “Again it is written [by God]...
(Matthew 4:8-11) Again the Devil took [Jesus] along to an unusually high mountain... and he said to him: “All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me.” Then Jesus said to him: “Go away, Satan! For it is written [by God]...
Thanks again for the opportunity to show the bible truth that Jesus the Son is a distinct person from Jehovah the Father!
(Jude 9) But when Michael the archangel had a difference with the Devil... he did not dare to bring a judgment against him in abusive terms, but said: “May Jehovah rebuke you.”
(1 Thessalonians 4:14-16) Jesus died and rose again, so, too... the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel's voice

Sounds like to me that you just answered your own question. If Jesus was Michael the Archangel as JW's profess, then he would have been able to rebuke Satan. If you study Hebrews, chapter 1, you will note that Jesus is superior to the angels. Furthermore, angels are created beings. Jesus, on the other hand is the creator. John 1:3 says, "ALL THINGS were created by Him..." (emphasis mine). all things includes the angels. Who is Jesus? God Almighty!

I can't believe they would . If they do they are in error. You can not be a witness to Jehovah and say they are the same. No way. Christ sits at the right hand of god and Michael does not.

It is the believer who must rebuke satan in Jesus name. Jesus did nmot have to rebuke satan for even the wind and waves obeyed him for he was Emmanuel(God in the flesh)

Isn't the Easter bunny just Santa Claus in a bunny suit? Maybe Michael really could rebuke archangels, but it just didn't fit into that particular character so he pretended like he could not.

Because they're not the true gospel. They dont even go by the bible. They have their own printed bibles and believe only certain ones will go to heaven, those in the 144,000 and the rest will lie asleep.
