I have had back pain now for about a month. I dont recall anything that would have brought this on. And can no longer get any releif to sleep or anything else from home remedies such as OTC drugs,Heating pads,Icy hot,etc... Should I go to a DR and if so what do I say to get something to help the pain so that I do not look like a drug seeker? What do Dr's generally give for back pain like I have described?

Sorry for leaving this important detail out but the pain is in the lower back and is a constant pain that becomes worse when bending or standing.

Having been there I work with a chiropractor (who uses an activator) and a massage therapist.
Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas (natural muscle relaxers) daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.
Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.
The cure - start with a professional massage, (if this does not do it you probably need a chiropractor as well) you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).
For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

Your experience is typical of back pain experiences. Tell the doctor what you've done for treatment. Unless he's a total idiot, pain pills and a prescriptive NSAID are in order. I used to be concerned about looking like a drug seeker..... nowadays, pain control is emphasized so I wouldn't worry. I empathize with your pain and wish you the best.

my son was having pain in his lower back, went to a spine specialist, they took xrays, and he has degenerative joint disease. and i guess its not that rare in younger people these days. he was given anti viral meds, not pain killers.and told the nervers will "burn out", and thats the only way the pain will stop. So yes, go see a real doctor then decide from there. He goes for the deep massages, they help a little. Yah he was on tylenol 3s and they didnt touch the pain. Good luck hope you find some answers and it can be cared for.

A really good chiropractor is who you need to see. They relieve back pain with minimal or no pain and no drugs. I believe you have a spinal misalignment and it can be fixed but do not go to a regular doctor. Do some research on chiroprators in your area and go to the best one. Hope this helped.

You need to see the doc so he can order x-rays of your back to find out what is going on. The doc will not just send you home with pain meds without trying to find out what is wrong with your back. As to what they will give for pain like you described? YOu didn't describe any pain......all you said was severe back pain. You didn't say upper or lower back, stabbing, sharpe or dull pain and if it is constant or not etc. See the doc so they can figure out what is going on.

You really should see a doctor. You need to get rid of the problem and/or only take pain med's if you have to.
The doctor should x-ray you. And if you are young don't allow the doctor to brush you off & hand you a percription, ask for a x-ray.

See a doctor as the others have suggested. But I also had alot of success with accupuncture. I had to stop cuz it was expensive and not covered by insurance, but man it made me feel like dancing!

I would advise you to go to chiropractor first cause what they will do first is x-rays cause if theres something seriously wrong they will send you to a doctor but percentage of people need a little adjusting stretching to get those disk of your nerves but anyway i would really sujest that first !!!
