I don't think it has to do with religion but the answer to which came first is easy; eggs came before chickens, dinosaurs laid them eons before chickens. Which came first a chicken or a chicken egg? The chicken, it was a mutation of a chicken predecessor so what laid the egg was not an actual chicken. That should shut anyone pulling your leg up.

Eggs have a place in pagan worship, we see them as a symbol of fertility and of the Earth and its potential bounty.

It's an overly asked question pertaining to the Creation/evolution debate. The Creationist answer is that the chicken was created first. According to evolution, the first creature that would qualify as a chicken hatched from an egg laid by a creature that was not quite a chicken. It's been overdone on Y!A.

I think it has to do with creationism believing that God or whomever created the animals first, thus, chicken came first. But if things evolved from bacteria, then eventually something that no longer split itself in 2 to multiply evolved to produce eggs for replication. That eventually evolved into a chicken. Thus, in that example, egg came first, then chicken.

So, it really is a battle between evolutionary theory and creationist, I think, when it comes to which came first, the chicken or the egg.

Its a question of evolution. How did these things come about? Did the chicken come first? Or the egg? Its a question that will probably never be answered, just as the basis and beginning of religion will never be known.

Eggs have very little to do with religion, except at easter, and thats really just another festival with traditions based on pagan practices, but adapted by the christians for their celebrations.

I just wanted to correct all those who said something like "evolutionists believe the first egg was laid by a chicken like creature." Infact, the first amniotic egg was probably laid by something like a small lizard or possibly something like a turtle. Those eggs were probably very soft shelled, much like those of egg laying amphibians (frogs, salamanders etc). And, the amphibians were laying eggs, like their fish ancestors, like thier starfish cousins and their insect distant cousins...oh and like lots of worms do....

Chickens certainly didnt lay the first egg.....

Well creationists believe that chickens came first, they were created by god then later they laid eggs. Evolutionists believe that the first true chicken egg was laid by a bird extremely similar but genetically distinct from the chicken, so the egg came first.

Yes, Christians like to hide eggs at Easter to let the children find them. Apparently they fail to realize that eggs and the bunny were part of the fertility rites of the pagan worship of the fertility goddess in ancient history.

you know the whole question, what came first the chicken or the egg? if you believe in God you believe the chicken came first because God created everything before they reproduced if that makes sense.
