Try to be laid back, talk to someone you normally wouldn't talk to. Joining new activites/clubs are the best way to find friends. BUT chose your firends wisely

aww well i think that you should consider a few things...realize that people do want to get to know you better and that the only way for them to do so requires your active participation...speaking as a formerly shy girl, i know that i spent much of my high school years worrying about whether i would make the best impression of myself...but after a while, i recognized that I am really the person who is losing out by not being as outgoing as I could be....this change certainly didn't happen overnight but i made baby steps. :) try meeting people in smaller groups (2-3) which can be a little less overwhelming. try asking other people about their interests and make 'small talk' or offer up some jokes that are sure to win the folks over...but i only suggest that if you have a pretty good sense of humor, otherwise that could backfire. :) lol just take your time and be less concerned with how you will perceived by everybody, and more focused on the friendships that you will gain by your newfound presence...guaranteed, people will gravitate to you and be more eager to get to know you...good luck hun!

I'm in the same boat as you. This last year I've been trying a lot to stop being so shy, and I'm doing a little better. Not a lot, but a little. It takes a lot of work, just keep it up, and every time you think you're not going to do something because you're too shy, just step out and do it anyway.
You won't do it every time, in fact, most of the time you won't, but the times that you do are totally worth it, and make you realize that your fears are totally unfounded.
Good luck though, just keep trying! :)

Become friends with some guy who is an outgoing ladies man. He'll help you become less shy. One of my friends helped me out with my confidence. I am still shy, but not as much.

You are going to have to train yourself slowly to get over it. I used to be shy now people laugh when I tell people that. I got tired of people walking all over me and not speaking up and then punishing myself for it. Give it a try, you can do it.

Read a book about ways to overcome it. It helped me. Also, hanging around friends that will increase your confidence always helps.
