Yorkies are very, very popular right now due to the "toy" size rage. Thus, there are a lot of very, very bad breeders out there who are producing unhealthy puppies.

Second, Yorkies are prone to such problems as: tracheal collapse, liver problems, hypoglycemia, and tonsillitis.

Third, you live on the 19th floor with a terrace? If your terrace railings have slats, are you willing (and will your building allow) to put some sort of covering over the slats so that your Yorkie won't fall 19 stories to it's death??

And fourth, if you can't make time in your day to walk a dog, you don't DESERVE to have a dog and I feel sorry for any dog that you get. If you feel the need to get a pet, but don't want the responsibility to go along with it, I would suggest a goldfish - they usually don't live that long anyway.

Daily exercise is required, but you can train a small dog to use a litter box. They won't bury like cats do though, so it can be stinky. I knew someone who had a 4-lb yorkie that would bark when she had to potty, the owner would put a piece of paper towel on the kitchen floor, and the dog would go on that. They're reasonably healthy dogs, although every pure bred dog has a llist of potential medical problems (that's just what happens when you shallow out the gene pool). They are very smart and manipulative, you'll have to be strong willed, or it will train you to do what it wants.

Getting a good breeder is key! Ideally you want to meet both parents, at least meet the mother and litter mates. House-raised dogs are best socially, avoid the pet store when shopping for a purebred. Ask a lot of questions, and ask about health guarantees-good breeders guarantee the quality of their dogs. If the breeder doesn't have any guarantees, walk away. Remember too that you get what you pay for, and cheap dogs are usually cheap for a reason. Have a vet examine it as soon as you buy it to make sure it's healthy, like the same day. Get it neutered, even if it will never be around any other dogs, or it will urine mark in your house and find things to hump. Good luck.

All dogs need walks every day. Period. If you cannot walk him every day, please don't be so cruel as to get a dog and keep it cooped up in a condo 24/7, even with a terrace (which it could potentially fall off of anyway). Get a cat instead. And keep that off the terrace too- animals shouldn't be outdoors without leashes and supervision.

I don't know what your main question has to do with the rest of it, but no, Yorkshire terriers are prone to any number of health problems including: eye conditions, blindness, digestive problems, skin problems, ear infections, early tooth decay, obesity, joint problems, etc.

I own two wonderful male yorkies and I love in a apartment. yes they are kept inside while I am at work making a living jus tlike every other human on this earth but if you are really interested then dont listen to all these negitive people on here..get yourself a dog. I love mine and I take them out all the time and they interact with others at the dog parks on weekends. If you need help on where to look I would be more than happy to help you out. i cant stand all these people on here saying if you cant do this this this..its stupid and they have nothing better. Get a darn yorkie if you want to, they are lovale and energetic and would bring happiness to your life. I love mine so much and could not live without them

Being a great Dog Lover, it is of the most importance to me that, Dogs get they're daily exercise, however, most, miniature Dogs, would be alright to keep, with a large Terrace and an occasional walk.
I also would suggest to get two Miniature's, so, they can chase each other around and that's getting exercise plus,if alone too much, would get too lonely.

I have a yorkie who act's like one of the kid's. He was given to us because his first "parents" were not strong willed. He ruled the house all the way to the point of what time he ate. I don't know about other yorkies but our's is just like a toddler per say, if you do not spend alot of exercise and snuggle time with him he finds things to get into, these dog's require alot of time and attention or at least mine does and as for medical problem's you really must do some major research.

Yorkies are very, very popular dogs. Sadly, that means that there are many dishonest backyard breeders out there who are breeding unhealthy dogs and taking people's money for these dogs. Please do your homework - reputable breeders are charging around $2000 for a healthy puppy. Akc.org and www.petfinder.com are good places to learn more about the breed. Don't ever purchase a puppy sight unseen!
Be prepared for lots of questons from a breeder or a rescue group. They will be extremely UNimpressed if you plan on walking a dog only 1x per day, and will not let you have a dog.

i think a yorkie would be a great dog if you train it properly my neighbor has one and its a sweet heart. they do bark when visitors come though but other then that they seem to entertain themself, i also know this from having 2 chihuahuas of my own maybe u should consider getting two yorkies they will keep eachother company when u are out of the house it makes life so much simpler and dogs always play together!

they are ideal for apartment dwelling. and if you have that for the dog while you are not home then hurray for you. but if i was you i would spend as amuch time with the dog outside when you have time they tend to get bored sometimes and my friends eventually developed seperation anxiety and just got to to bored. maybe another yorkie or some other small dog would be a good idea if you are really worried.

They have been really overbred the past few decades so they arent as healthy as they once were. They have a lot of health problems now.
