What is it about some people that their photographic image looks just like them. While other people look bad in a photograph. For sure it is not even about good looking ppl vs not so good looking people. I just can not figure this out.

Yeah, some people are more photogenic than others; even some attractive people look bad in photographs.
I think lighting contributes to this; pale complexions tend to reflect the flash and obscure the contours of a person's face, making it look flat; flashbulbs also tend to emphasize wrinkles and cast strange shadows.

well i think that some people are photogenic and some arent and it doesnt even matter if your good looking or not... also you need to take into consideration

1.lighting (some lighting is really bad)
2.angle your shooting person (i look bad straight one but if its hitting me from an angle i look great weird but its true)
3. professionals can make you look good

I know this great photographer and it doesnt matter who or what she is taking a picture of its awesome.. maybe the professionals have magic tricks or something that they do to the camera

I do know what you mean. Every candid picture taken of my husband's ex, she has her hands in front of her like dead limbs...looks terrible! My mom always takes pictures of me with my eyes half closed or my mouth hanging open to catch flies. Candids are such a bad thing if you are over 4 years old!

I always say it's the photographer! It has to do with lighting, camera angle, engagement of subject with the camera, subject positioning.

If you are having problems looking good in a photo (or give this advice to your subject) turn everso slightly to your good side (VERY slight!!!!) drop and extend your chin a bit (this prevents double chins) and inhale as the picture is being taken. It will really help.

There are some people who will always look good on film. And then, there are people like me who, well, I better not say, you might be having dinner now. The lady next door to me is one of the beautiful ones. I have never seen a picture of her look anything but great. She just had her 4th kid, and she doesn't even look like she has had any kids.

Camera can take picutres of things the human eye does not see. The camera only catchs a moment in time where as our eyes contuinually gather light and convert it neuron blah blah. Its a different perspective thats all it is.
