When I asked my first question, I got only two answers, and they were in no way helpful. I wanted to fix a problem with IE7, but only got responses like: Trash IE and get Firefox. I use Firefox on my iMac, and like it, but IE7 is also a good browser. Why can't people help instead of being totally oblivious to the original question? I know about other browsers, and I run two different ones side by side on this computer, but the original question still goes unanswered. Oh, well, I guess that's just life. Too many questions and not enough answers...I'll just take my 5 points docked and go on.

First, it was simple enough to click on your avatar to see what question you were referring to. I do NOT have the answer to that, but I'd like to share something I learned in over a year on Yahoo Answers. (I think I've asked about 27.) I have gotten only a few answers to most; two were fantastically informative. The most, & funniest (really made me laugh!) answers were in Trivia, which isn't controversial or requires technical knowledge, but brought out the very best of everyone's imagination & sense of humour, & it was FUN. I just looked at a few of your "answers"--isn't it great fun to get an alert from Yahoo that you've rec'd an answer, & it's: "Duh!" Good grief. I guess some people will do anything just for two points. I wish I could help. I finally (I think) restored my avatar that's been missing for over a month...hope the nickname didn't drop out! I mean, people really get to KNOW you when you answer a lot, thoughtfully, of course. I didn't check what catgegory you're in--that can also make a big difference. Good luck!

Since IE7 runs under the administrator account, that means the user has full control under documents and settings\"userid", Windows, and Program Files. These are the 3 main directories where IE files are located. What you'll find is your User and Guest accounts do not have Write access to one or more of the directories. Either you'll need to change the account to at least Power User or change the access rights on those folders. That is give Users and Guest Write access to specific files/folders that IE needs to write to when it opens.

With IE running under the Admin account, there's nothing wrong with the system files, you do not need to reinstall the application. You just need the correct access rights on the folders and files.

I suppose the original purpose of this was for users to help users. However, it seems that having a point system sometimes causes people to reply with the quickest response in hopes of having their answer selected as the best. In the end, a quality answer is sacrificed for a quick answer. The other thing is that so many people ask questions to things that someone may have already answered; they simply aren't searching for the correct key terms. Those who may have answered the same question several times see it as trivial and don't provide as much information as they might have the first time they saw a similar question.

You could actually ask someone at Microsoft to help you with your problem with IE7. You don't state the problem here, so I will direct you to a help site.

See the bottom right in the page where it shows IE Support Center.

What was the original question? I used Internet Explorer 7 for a while and learned some neat tricks. (But in the end, I did go for Firefox 2.)
