Who all is making a fuss over your cousin? Her mom? Her step dad? Or is it your parents too? Now which of these did you tell that you were raped and when? Was it sitting down with your parents at dinner type thing? Or was it in the middle of a "shopping spree" for your cousin?

It's very possible that your family is thinking that you saying you were raped is just because you're jealous of the attention your cousin is getting right now. Depending on when you told, that could explain why your family isn't acting like they believe you.

Another possible reason they "forgot" what you said is that it's really hard to believe that rape would happen to our family and our little girl so sometimes you have to overcome a lot of unwillingness to get family member to believe you. Even when we read it in the headlines almost daily we want to believe it happens out there and not so close to home.

For your sanity, you need to find an adult you trust and if it isn't your family look for a teacher, a minister, a neighbor or anyone and keep telling them until they take you seriously and help you.

I think you need to realize that your family's behavior is completely inappropriate. We just don't go around slapping people, period. And, yes, this incident will have a tremendous impact on your cousin's life. Of course, not as profound as being raped (I'm so sorry this happened to you), but you can't put yourself in your cousin's shoes any more than she can put herself in yours. What you should react to is your family being totally being ridiculous.
