wear flip-flops or sandals on their way to and from the office, but when at work they change into their high-heels they keep under their desk. It's becoming sort of a trend from where I come from, I just think its not fashionably nice (or correct) to wear a work suit but flip-flops underneath even if you're riding the bus or subway. It just shows how lazy some women are.

Wow! You people sure have a point. I guess I'll start wearing my oh-so-fashionable sneakers starting from tomorrow.

Now, who made their point without getting all grumpy at me... let me see...

It's not exactly lazy in my book, it can be to keep from getting their 'good' shoes from getting messed up, dirty, or something along those lines. If they have to walk long distances to even get to the office this makes perfect sense as well. Heels are killer. I will occasionally wear my tennis shoes to work for the above reason. I've been doing it for years. There were a few times I forgot my good shoes and had to wear tennis shoes all day, but that's a few times over 10 years.

This is one big trend, especially in London. Some women have devised a reason not to wear heels when they should be. It is commonly down to comfort and a false image in the office, so why buy a perfectly perfectly good looking or classy pair of shoes in the first place... It can only boil down to a combination of laziness and portraying a false image to other work colleagues. Plus its not fashionably nice to wear trainers or sandals to work so why bother by the time you get there, they may look nice at the photocopier but its not as if many people are going to look at your feet behind an office desk... I have to agree that only the lazier women in offices I know actually do it, who can only wear them for a short space of time or while sitting down.
Girls/ladies - wear heels where they will be appreciated more and don't use a half mile walk to work as an excuse to wear trainers or flip-flops, most women don't have to wear trainers, "your not exactly at the gym are you!"
(thanks, I've said my piece!).

I totally understand the comfort thing but why do these women care about what their feet look like in the office but not out of the office? They're still making an impression when they walk to the office. They might run into the boss or a client on the street heading into the office. The more sensible and fashionable woman would wear shoes that she could walk to the office and keep on in the office. There are some very stylish soft soled shoes out there!

It has nothing to do with laziness or fashion. I am a teacher and am on my feet all day. Sometimes my feet really hurt, even tough I wear special shoes. I don't think it fair that we should be criticized in any way as long as we wear the appropriate footwear while we are on the job. I feel that it is you who needs to really think this question through.

I'd also like to give you an example of what not wearing comfortable footwear does to people. My mother worked in a restaurant most of her life. When she retired, she had to have operations on her legs because of all the damage done because she was on her feet ALL THE TIME.

I hope that this may change your thinking a little the next time you go to work and see people wearing comfortable footwear when they are outside the office.

Shame on you for being SO RUDE!

The daily grind in stilettos is not a good idea. i commend these women who wear flip flops or runners to and from work it shows they are sensible enough to not break their backs during their commute and that fashion doesnt matter when it comes to comfort. the woman that do this will most likely have less back problems.

what a shallow minded question, who cares what kind of shoes a person is wearing? the fact that some people commute to and from work for hours in some cities is so much more noteable than what kind of shoes they are wearing during the long walks to buses and trains and in taxis and parking garages. Anyway they are only required to look professional in the workplace. As a business owner I would assume the ones who are paying them probably coundnt care less what they wear on the subway in. Running shoes would be good if they get them to work on time.

That is so silly. Lazy because they choose to be comfortable before strapping on heels? Look, heels can cause all sorts of health problems, including poor circulation, fallen arches, and unsightly varicose veins. By not wearing heels even those few extra minutes, those smart ladies are saving the health of their legs, and I hope you rethink heels, because they are not de riguer for the office these days!

I've not seen women wearing flip-flops, but where I work they do come in sneakers and change into heels.

High heels hurt women's feet. It's hard enough to wear them at work; wearing high heels on your way to work is just more time that you have them on your feet. That's why women where flip flops or gym shoes on their way to and from work.

They aren't being lazy, they're being sensible. I certainly couldn't walk several blocks, up and down stairs to the L wearing high heels. I do take in different shoes depending on what I am wearing.
