I have no faith, but I'm absolutely sure that most feel that their faith IS beyond reproach.

Absolutely not. If a person believes blindly without questioning anything, they will fall for anything. You cannot grow in faith unless you question it. How can you expect to find the truth unless you ask.

I did not understand this for most of my life. When I finally got enough courage to question my faith, I almost lost it. But then I found the truth and it made my faith stronger than a rock.

Questioning ones faith is paramount to growing in faith.

Never, but it is an unnecessary interruption to my efforts to have it questioned in the middle of its practice by people who don't understand the function of faith.

Faith is the act of setting aside reason/logic/deduction, etc. long enough to actually do something that doesn't require those things.

It is a fallacy of the modern mindset (not science) that the "brain is for thinking". The brain is actually for thinking, and thousands of other functions as well, of which thinking is actually not that big a part (biologically speaking).

Imagine never being able to stop analyzing. Every step you take, every movement would be an excrusciating exercise in step-by-step movement of every muscle and joint, every tendon and constant rebalancing. You'd never learn to walk in the first place.

Faith, the act of putting aside that and just "jumping" is the basis of all autonomic functions, all actions that people take and don't have to reason out. You simply assume that if you tilt your body you will be walking in the next moment, not flat on your face (which is why it is such a surprise when something goes wrong)!

However, before you "leap", a good analysis of what you are getting into is wise, as is the analysis after you have leapt to see what happened.

There are some places, some states of mind, some perceptions that cannot be reached by reason (ask any scientist), just as there are somethings that may be perfectly real but cannot be tested by science (yet).

Faith is a tool. Some never stop having faith. Some never have their faith tested or questioned.

I test and question my faith before and after my leaps.

But during? Never. It would be like leaping out of a plane for a skydive and suddenly having an attack of reason.

You'd die, or at least land very badly.

But before and after the leap, I ALWAYS question the act of faith.

It never costs me. Truth is my goal, not preserving my "belief system".

I am not religious. I have a background in scientific method and logic (formal and symbolic). I hope I have given you a new perspective on faith (not specifically on religious faith, but who knows?)

Keep searching. Keep speaking up.

The Philosophy of Life in which I am a student of encourages us not to live by faith, but by reasoning and logic. And it is quite alright to question things, to investigate, research and to learn.
I am a student of Buddhism, but we are no better or worse than anybody else, and we also do not think our philosophy of Life is the best, or "the only Way". Everyone must find their own way to acquire peace of mind, and Happiness, while doing their best to avoid suffering in life.
*The important thing, is that we learn to respect the free will of others, which will help bring us peace of mind, and will improve our communication/relationships with other human beings.

Faith can't be questioned, otherwise you'd end up with an informed opinion based on facts and evidence. Not faith.

I think that our faith will be questioned until the day we see Jesus... mine is not 'better' or 'stronger' than anyone elses... and I will not be so self righteous to say that i cannot topple in my faith now and then... but when I fall, God remains faithful to me and brings me back into relationship.

Even if it was should I get offended by it? NO. If I get upset because you say something against christians, I would be acting very immature. Just like if I were to question someone else's beliefs and they get offended they would be acting immature.

not at all, I've questioned it myself a few times. Being a Christian is not for the weak at heart. If you are not TRULY a Christian, you won't last long, soon you will be one of these atheist who think they know it all because they had a quick honeymoon with religion and ran from it.

A real Christian will NEVER run away from it, and they WILL be challenged, its part of the program, so if you can't handle it, you won't last.

Question away. I know what I believe and why I believe it. I am not Christian and so no one really questions my belief, they just tell me I'm going to Hell.
