dont say take him to the vet. im going to. im just wondering what are possible problems? he's almost a year old. he only limps sometimes, sometimes he'll walk and even run on it. i've picked him up and moved his arm, squeezed, pushed on it, he never crys out. you would never know something is wrong except that he (sometimes) limps on it. what might be wrong?

He may have knee problems, something like a slipping patella (kneecap). In small dogs, the kneecap often slips. When it is out of place, they limp. but it can slip back into place, causing the limp to stop.

My money is on a condition called luxating patella. Luxating patellas are very very common in chihuahuas. This means his kneecaps pop in and out of place. When the kneecap is in place, they walk fine. When it pops out, either they limp or they can't bend their knee at all. Sometimes it affects one leg, sometimes both. It's genetic, and there's a lot of variation in how severe it is. It's not always painful, and it can be surgically corrected if it's a big problem for him. A good physical exam will diagnose it, maybe an x-ray to determine the grade of luxation (severity).

touch diverse aspects of the leg to work out what's inflicting him to limp and consider out massaging the section. If his limping escalates or would not stop then its never a bad concept to call a close-by vet and get him checked

he might have a splinter or a piece of glass in the foot area somewhere and only feels it now and then depending on how he is walking at the time.

Could be growing pains. Are you feeding puppy food? It's likely the problem.
