It really depends on what you are doing. Most schools require that you have either direct or indirect community volunteer projects from an approved non-profit organization.

You would need to validate with your school whether this would count. It depends upon the type of work, and the area. If your school accepts service from outside your local area, you will also need to validate that they will accept hours from your church.

Through my volunteer organization, I've worked with several teen volunteers from out of the area. You might want to work with the local volunteer center in the area to get community service hours while you are in San Diego if you have some time.

Here's a link to the local volunteer center in San Diego:

They can provide you with volunteer projects through over 800 non-profit organizations throughout the county, and are affiliated with national volunteer centers throughout the country, so they can provide you with appropriate documentation that most schools will accept.

Good luck

If you are talking about going door to door I think that if I were on the school board I would say no it isn't. I would point out that many of the people that these young people bother don't want them there and are glad to see them leave. On the other hand if a young person goes to an Indian mission and works on a well to provide water to the village I would say that this might be called Community service.

Different school systems have different rules so you'll needd to ask your own school. It may depend some on if the mission is something that helps people mainly (like a food and/or games program for inner city kids, helping build homes in a poor area or another country, etc or more something that is just promoting the religion not helping in a natural sense)
