A combination black & stainless looks great and is very economical. It typically costs me $1400 to install GE appliances (dishwasher, oven w/glass top, & microwave vent-a-hood) in my new homes.

Kitchens and bathroom remodels as are the best value for your money. I would go with white appliances, make all appliances match. Change the counter tops by getting an inexpensive counter from most home improvement stores; repair/replace tile and grout; peel and stick floor tiles over a thin sheet of plywood to even out any dimples in the floor; put a shut off on the sink if there isn't one; if the faucet is in good condition just shine it up; scrub every corner and empty out half the shelves to make storage space look plentiful; declutter. Dirty kitchens are big turnoffs. For the bathroom, a replacement tub surround(if necessary) is cheap, floor tiles, tile and grout same as in kitchen, declutter and clean; consider replacing toilet if its stained; install/replace towel bar and toilet paper holder. Little things like that make a difference.

I prefer black. It looks cleaner. But you should compare the colors to your cabinets and counter tops. The color should fit in. If the cabinets and counter tops are white, then white appliances would make it seem too sterile. If every thing is really dark, then white would look cheap. If the cabinets are light, then white would be okay.

We're thinking of the same thing. We talked to people at Kohl's, and I think we will go with white.
