Evidentally he reacted to it but this is a rare side effect and the doc said he has never seen someone react to this - he has no other medications that could have reacted with it. Anyone else out there have any suggestions? If it's rare how come it happened right away?

Each individual is physiologically different from another. There are some people who are hypersensitive, while others may well tolerate the same. This appears to be the case of your husband. He might be hypersensitive to the ingredients of Lorazepam. Its correct what the doc says, there may be one in a million who may exhibit such hypersensitiveness. But it also does not mean that, no one can be allergic to lorazepam. However safe a drug be, but sensitivity to it depends on an individuals physiology. When different foods cause allergic reactions,it is not correct to say that lorazepan should have been well tolerated.Maybe the doc has never chanced upon such an individual. But such allergic reactions can be well controlled with antihistamines or steroids,if need arises. When the reaction is life threatening adrenaline can also be administered. You should caution your husband from ever taking lorazepam or any of its ingredients in any other brand names.

He definitely had an allergic reaction, a severe one at that. Anyone can be allergic to anything, it will usually happen the second time you come into contact with it. I would think your husband needs to stay away from any kind of benzodiazepines, because the entire class will most likely cause a reaction, and they usually get more severe the more you take them.

FYI----Other trade names for Lorazepam, is also Ativan, Novo-Lorazepam, Nu-Loraz, & Apo-Lorazapam. So stay away from those also

Sounds like an allergic reaction. True allergic reactions are uncommon. Most people have adverse reactions to medications, things like nausea, vomiting, hallucinations...are more common, but are not true allergy symptoms. Your husband should not take this medication anymore, and he should carry a card in his wallet stating that he is allergic to it. Most allergic reactions occur within the first few minutes of taking the medication.

this is definitely an allergic reaction to the medication. there is a certain ingredient that your husband is allergic too and his histamine level "shot" up because of this certain ingredient. please see an allergist ASAP and also ask for an epipen and also take benadryl, which helps a lot. he may have developed an allergy. stop taking the medication too.

He is allergic to it that's for sure. He should never take it again or anything in the same family of medications.
