Slugs are great bait and can catch a variety of species. Fish them by hooking through the tail and free-lining them (just a hook, no weights).
Fish them under trees, bushes and banksides. I you think about it, naturally slugs will fall off of branches and grass stems and fish will recognise that audible 'plop' when they hit the water. Be prepared for a savage take. Big fat slugs are best because they give you a good casting weight, although a bunch of small ones can be used.

Amazing bait!! I go collect them after it rains. At night they are everywhere around flower garden and porches. Ive caught Large mouth, small mouth, cats, trout and even a carp! They happen to be one of my favorite baits. So much I would love to be able to breed them. They are hardy and stay on the hook, they live long even under water. The larger the better, but small ones work just fine for trout and small mouth. Free line or split sinker, I have even texas rigged them with a bullet weight on the hook end of a wide gap for large mouth. A bedding small mouth will pick them up instantly even when they wont touch anything else you throw at them. The largest cat I ever caught was on a big fat slug that probably stretched a good 6" plus. Collect all you can and have a great time fishing. And of course small ones work great for pan fish and crappie.

I've used them as bait before. Fish like anything slimy like that. I think I found some under a log while looking for worms. If I remember they are harder to hook than worms because they are so slimy and slippery. But I'd say under logs is your best bet.

I am sure you could but i have never tried it. Channel cat will probably bite since they eat almost anything. Nothing fancy needed to fish for em. Just an egg sinker and a decent sized hook and toss it out there.
