I was browsing the package store on my way home this evening and saw boxes of absinthe (i dont remember the brand). It looked cool, and even had a spoon provided in the packaging. My question is of course.... How can this be here for sale in the US?

It's not Absinthe, it's an imitation called "Absente"

It is not true absinthe, is the only reason I can thik of. The only true absinthe that is made is in the Czech republic. It is not legal to sell absinthe in the US, but it is legal to own absinthe in the US, so this may be a display, or as I stated before a faux absinthe. I have a site in the Czech Republic where you can buy genuine absinthe and it is www.absinthesupply.net go here and they will even give you a little history on the beverage.

It is not true Absinthe. It is still made from wormwood, just not the hallucenogenic type of wormwood. It is still VERY potent (usually 100 proof or higher) and it still tastes like absinthe.

What you see in the stores in the USA is called 'clean absinthe.' It has no wormwood in it.

It's not really Absinthe. It is made from southern wormwood, not regular wormwood. Southern wormwood doesn't have the same intoxicating effects that regular wormwood has.
