For those of you who missed it, 6000 light years away means that the light we see now has just traveled 6000 years at the speed of light. If we can see objects (stars) tht are further than 6000 lightyears away, they must be older than 6000 years. Obviously, the universe is billions of years old, and the earth too. But there will be those who totally miss the "lightYEARS" business.

You need to read the biblical account of creation again. It does not say that the earth did not exist prior to the story of creation. In fact it says quite the opposite. That the earth was covered with water. It also does not say that the entire universe did not exist prior to the story of creation.
Edit: tisk, tisk? I know exactly what a light year is and I gave you an answer to your question. Do you have the guts to read the story again and see if I'm telling the truth?

No, the Jewish Religion is less than 5,800 years old.
We have no concept of GOD days or GOD years.
BUT if you take Dr. Carl Sagan, the late Cosmologist from Cornell Univesity who proposed a Cosmic Calendar in which we are in the LAST DAY in the FIRST FEW MINUTES of the FIRST HOUR and that's when MAN came.
It PERFECTLY equates to the Biblical 6 days in which God Rested if man was created just before Midnight on the 6th day.
So science and Religion meet on solid ground.
Or you are refuting Dr. Carl Sagan.

Where did you get the idea that the universe is only 6000 years old? The Bible does not state--or imply--this. It says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." It does not say when "In the beginning" was.

No real answer. Couldn't find it in the archive.
I guess you got us...
I wonder why the sky isn't white at night from the stars that are less than 14 billion light years away.

From a Christian perspective:
the universe is not only 6000yrs old. The bible does not say that. I don't agree with the 7 literal day creation that has been widely embraced by many Christians. The bible says that to God a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day. Follow my train of thought on this line: we are 4 dimentional creatures. We can be measured in Height, width, depth, and time. Being 4 dimentional, we can manipulate things in lower dimentions. We can make 3-D objects, we can draw, paint, print, etc in 2-D, and we have not yet seen a 1 dimentional object, but if we did, we could manipulate it too. In order to manipulate anything, you have to be at least one dimention above it in complexity. God, having created everything (including time) would have to be greater in complexity than the 4th dimention (time). Another biblical clue to this is when God describes himself as "I am." Since God can manipulate the 4th dimention, His statement of "I am" adds more to the equation. It implies that God is farther above the 4th dimention in complexity to where he "is" no matter what date it is. Eg. God can be in 1873ad, 200bc, and 3007 simultaneously. To make this point more clear, immagine you draw a line on a piece of paper (or you can actually draw the line if it suits you). since you are far more complex than the line in dimentions, you are able to touch the line in several places at the same time. Immagining this line were only 1 dimention (since technically it has more than 1 dimention), If you were another 1-D line, you could only touch the other line in one place at a time. The Bible says that God is all knowing. Think of this, God, being able to be in every time simultaneously, is watching my future as it is happenning right now in front of him, and simultaneously watching my past as it is happening right now in front of him, and is watching George washington's entire life simultaneously as it is happenning right now in front of him, as well as every human who ever lived, every dog, sparrow, blade of grass, paramaecium, etc. To God, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day. God didn't create the universe in what we call 7 days (or 6). The 7 days were figurative language used for dividing up the categories of things that he made. There are many many references to all of this throughout the bible. There are many figurative passages in the bible, because there is no way for us to be able to comprehend God's complexity, and so figurative language is used to describe as much of it as we can understand.
