All the examples you mentioned are pure fiction. However there were a few popes who led immoral lives. After all, popes are sinners like the rest of us, and a few were really unfaithful to their calling. Nevertheless, even the least holy popes never taught anything that was inaccurate or untrue. This is the charism of infallibility, which ensures that the people of God will have only the fullness of truth, since truth is what sets us free. This charism extends far beyond the personal holiness or sins of the man who holds the office. Like all charisms, it is a direct work of the Holy Spirit, who will not allow a pope to teach falsely. This is why Jesus could tell the first pope, "whatsoever you bind upon earth is bound in heaven". And this is why the Holy Catholic Church remains united in belief and united in worship after 2,000 years, while manmade denominational religion continues to fragment and self-destruct after a few hundred years.
P.S. Helpful hint - NOTHING you read in a Chick tract is history. It is packaged ignorance, and the more you read of it the more ignorant you become.

I know. Some Popes were bad.
Consider this buddy... Should we not be something because it had or has a bad leader?
I mean, you going to renounce your American citizenship cos of Bush? Would you quit a team and leave your team mates if you had a bad manager?
Yes all of this stuff happened. But you know what? Protestants/Lutherans whatever you want to call them burned innocent women at the stake cos they accused them of being witches.
Queen mary, the head of the anglican church burned thousands of people at the stake.
The point is, that yes, in history, the leaders of all churches have done bad things. It doesn't mean that the religion is wrong, and it doesn't mean that we should excuse what they did.

I suppose Roman Catholics revise papal history as much as we Protestants do. There were plenty of good things that popes have done, but we have forgotten them because of our disgust for the popes' thirst for earthly power and their claims to take the place of Christ on the earth in ways that every other Christian does not.

When people look to people for answers of the soul they usually want a quick answer but when your looking fore a way out which is in the catholic religion you have to worship things which gives comfort to the masses but as you are a little wiser than most just look inside and you will find me.

Friend the Pope is just another person like either one of us and with the same needs, perhaps even more, but he is in a position to act upon these needs without fear of being rebuked, due to his status, but like you inferred he too shall be judged by the same person that we are.

religion is he opium of the people. unfortunatly when you think about it some people would rather just stay with what they know. it is hard to take something you have believed in your whole life then just to say well this is wrong and face the truth facing rejection can be the hardest choice you can ever make in your life. as n ex catholic i became a muslim after reading what i percieve to be the truth. every one i have known my whole life well lets just say i am no longer in cahoots with them. i figure i would rather be in the good graces with god rather then to live my life for the acceptence and pleasure of PEOPLE. what you said is well spoken.

Oh, I seriously don't want to know about the popes...I'm sure it's horrifying and I already have enough of a problem with the papacy and the Catholic church and religion in general.
