every time i try making pork sausage links (the really thick ones) they come out burned on the outside and take forever to cook on the inside. I use a George Foreman grill. IS there a better way? How do I know when they're cooked? Do they have to be totally grey inside, or can they be a little pink? Thanks!

Pork sausage should not be pink inside. I always cook mine either in tomato sauce, but brown them first, or in the oven with bell peppers. If you have your oven at 400 degrees, they get brown on the outside, and cook well on the inside, in about 4o minutes.

It may be better to use a conventional pan on a range vs. a Foreman grill, since you can adjust temperature. It would be best to cook it at a moderate temperature at first so that it can cook all the way through, and then turn up the temperature to get a nice caramelized outside for flavor/appearance.
For ground meat products, it's usually best to cook it all the way through. You can get a fairly good idea of doneness by checking the firmness of the sausage. Firmer=more done. Or you can just use an instant read meat thermometer to be sure.

I like to steam Italian sausage on top of cabbage. Would work with just about any large sausage. Never burns on the outside, cabaage may have to come out before the sausage is done. For any method of cooking sausage have 1 tester you can cut into to check for doneness. If you find it's burnt on the outside and not quite done in the middle you can toss it in the microwave to finish (30-60 seconds). For breakfast links or patties turn down your heat and cook slower.

I have never used a George Foreman grill. I have fried them and grill them on a regular open grill. They have to be slowly cooked in order to get them done all the was through. All pork should be cooked til it is done. No pink

put a little oil in the frying pan. heat on gas burner when it is hot put the sausages and slow the flame to minimum. cover the lid.in between turn over the sausages. in about five to six minutes they will be cooked. one minute cook without the cover..
when you cover a lid the heat penetrates the inside of sausages.
or just place in oven and microwave but 15 secs for 2 at half the power, or they will char .

Put your sausage links in a frying pan and add enough water to just *barely* cover them. Heat to boiling, reduce heat to medium-ish and simmer them with a lid on until the water is evaporated. From there, remove the lid and fry them as usual. Boiling them helps cook them through until they're done, then the frying will brown them without burning them. :) This also works equally well with bratwurst, or any other fresh sausage in casings.

try wrapping them in a little foil sleeping bag with a drizzle of olive oil and some crushed garlic, 350degrees for about 20 - 30 minutes. You don't wanna ever see pink if you're talking about pork sausage.

I tossed my george foreman grill years ago, I had so much friggin trouble with it, and clean up was an **** pain.

Just cook your sausage on low in a frying pan with some veggie oil. Flatten it as much as you can or in the process of cooking it. It always works for me. Or hey bake it, the healthy way.
