I know of a good place in the Detroit/Windsor area called Cinderella's Decor. Alot of times, renting is much cheaper than doing it yourself, by the time you buy all the stuff you need. They were really good at my wedding, and had really great prices compared to other local places.
Their website is http://www.cinderellaonline.ca/
Another way to save is to not have favours; they are a waste of money from experience!
Good luck!

We borrowed a trellis from a friend for our wedding. My in-laws used a piece of fence as a backdrop (it was a prefabricated fence from Home Depot. They painted it and the party stood in front.) They also used as many silk plants as they could borrow...and lights are a great idea. Look around for things which are discounted or second-hand.

Walmart, Michaels, the Rag Shop and all craft storeshave full aisles of wedding stuff. Most of it is really cute too! You can also find craft books there spcifically geared towards weddings. I would say Michaels has the best stuff.

for table tops, i think candles on mirrors look great. buy lots of tulle, you can drape it everywhere! also those tiny white xmas lights look good for romantic lighting. in addition to craft stores, try looking at www.orientaltradingcompany.com . I've heard they have great decorating ideas at dirt cheap prices.

good luck!
