Every night about time I get anxious as hell. I can't sleep and think about very bad things. I wish you all could reach out and help me. I dring myself to sleep all the time, even though I know it is slowly killing me. I am fully aware that I'll never find the anwer in the bottom of a glass, but I don't know what else to do.

You know I'm looking for a life that is worth living, and maybe that's why I drink myself to sleep.

I am just like you. I was doing the same. Then I got some prescription sleeping pills from my friend that work very well (ambien)......and joined a gym which makes me focus on my body and appearance and health..plus working out makes endorphines go to the brain which makes a person happier. Please try these things. Life may never be what you expect as it is not for me....but at least you will not feel as horrible all the time. Good luck. I will be praying for you and wishing you the best.

I think I know what you're sufffeirng from. it is Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The symptoms areL 1) long lasting anxiety that is not focused on any particular object or situation, 2) unable to articulae their fears, 3) have a hard time controlling their worries, 4) persistent muscle tension, 5) autonomic fear reactions, 6) insomnia, and sometimes 7) heart palpitations and dizziness.
I would definitely advise you to go to a psychologist as soon as possible, because your symptoms can get worse and it may affect your life.
Good luck and God bless :)

It might sound corny but why don't you see a physiatrist. You probably have issues you need to work out. You can't do it alone and getting messed up every night isn't the answer either it only masks the problem but when the liquor wears off you got the same problem. Even sleeping pills is a better option then drinkin yourself to sleep. Talk to someone get help before you have a bigger problem then not sleeping

You need to seek out some help now. I suggest you find a counselor and discuss how you are feeling. They can guide you and find the root of this, which is the key. Put aside fears, think rational thoughts, you can control your thoughts. Alcohol or drugs don't solve anyones problems, they just make bigger ones.
Change your life and get some proper help. You can do this. Take care.

What is REALLY bothering you?Thinking of bad things are just a distraction, its nothing more than obsessive thinking.Quit stressing about sleeping, sleep doesnt have to be so "structured"take a few naps here and there..trust me,your body will eventually sleep")

Funny you should say that, I was thinking of doing that to get to sleep and stop being anxious.
Try this--some anti-anxiety meds from the doc. I tried but I am so anxious I am scared to take them. I think this may be your best bet. Most people do well with these meds. Or sleeping meds.
See the doc, please. Don't drink anymore.

If you regularly drink yourself to sleep, you will loose the ability to fall asleep naturally as your body is used to passing out. From what you say, I wonder if some issues bother you and you are able to keep your mind off them till you go to bed and they come to mind. You need to find out what's really bothering you. Alcohol just makes it worse.

Your post is so lucid; typed so well. You have such good diction. So clearly, you're no idiot. What I don't get is, how a smart guy drinks to feel better, when he knows it will only make things worse.
You know who knows how to REALLY help you - your regular family doc. He'll set you on the right track.
