Some people would criticize it if it was called "Black Friday" for being racist.

It's Good Friday because the sacrafice Christ made for us, was very good for us and our salvation. Its the worst thing and the best thing to ever happen all at the same time.
In a way, it was even good in the mind of Christ. After all, it was all done according to prophecy and His plan. He allowed it to happen more so than simply being a victim. At any time He could have unleashed the legion of Angels and stopped it.

There are both happy and sad things that happened that day. The western church views Christ's death as a sacrifice, and the eastern church views the same event as a victory over sin. To quote Dickens, "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times."

I think it's Good Friday because that's the day Christ gave the ultimate gift.

I believe it was once called " God Fear Friday " due to events that took place after Jesus Christ gave up the spirit. Dark day, earth quack, dead walking!

Weird huh? Our sinful nature is also sometimes called Oh Happy Fault. This is because it was because of this that Jesus died for us and we receive eternal life through him. Kind of weird though, I agree.

The word "good" is used in this case to mean "holy". It was the day that the holiest of sacrifices was made. It's not meant to mean "good" in the way we usually think of it.

If you think in terms of Christian salvation, it would be 'good' that Jesus died on the cross to save you from eternal damnation.
A rather self-serving title if you think about it.
