Birds molt 3 times a year. Look very closly at the birds face, if you see any kind of calesses or growths on it, then its got scally face bugs

But if it doesnt appear to have growths on its face then its probly molting which is normal.

If the bird is not actively pulling it's feathers out, there shouldn't be any problem.

Every year, birds will go through a natural process called molting. They will loose the older feathers and grow new ones in.

If this is not normal molting, it may be something called French molt. It is hereditary, and not contagious to the other birds, but it will mean that the bird will gradually loose all it's feathers. If it starts to look bald, It would be kinder to destroy it.

If your parakeet seems happy and healthy he is probably just moulting. He'll shed his old feathers and grow new ones. This is normal so no need for seperation.

I am a bird owner, and every bird molts...but, if you are unsure, take it to your vet.
