I have many, many allergies...including pet hair and pollen. With that said, I have a dog that is shedding a lot right now. I live in Florida and the pollen is SUPER BAD this year. I try to vacuum and dust often, but it's not seeming to help. It would be ideal to open the windows to let the house air out, except that I'm allergic to the pollen outside too.

It's not an option to get rid of the dog, so what else can I do? Please help! I can't breath!!

If you have carpets, get rid of them. They hold a lot of allergens. Don't sleep with the dog in your bed. Sleep with an allergenic cover over your pillow. Wash your bedding frequently especially if the dog has been on it. The same with any covers on your furniture that can be washed. If not, vacuum very well and often. I don't know what you can do with the pollen except to stay indoors a lot. Are you taking any allergy meds? If not, take an over the counter one or see your doctor for a prescription.

You can purchase both room and house air purifiers. Honeywell brand are excellent products. The drawback is that the filters can get expensive. You could also get the better 3M furnace filters. They are called Filtrete, and will take out as much as 99% of all impurities out of the air. You would need a furnace that you can leave the fan motor on though. The drawback to them, is that you must change them every month. Furnace repair persons, and installers hate them because they know that most people will not change them once a month like they should. Instead most people see that they are advertised as a filter that can last up to 3 months long. The problem with their statement is that it is true, but they fill up with "fluff" faster than the traditional filters. Here in Minnesota I use the "Red" Filtretes during the winter when it is dog and dust time of year, but pollen is not an issue when it is below zero, and the "Purple" Filtretes during the spring and summer when the pollen attacks my wife. She has bad allergies AND athsma, and so we have to have something effective all year long too. (Or else I'd have to put her out of her misery.) Leave your furnace / central air unit's fan on all the time and you will see a marked decrease in "Fluffies" within a couple of months.
