Renewable resources is a category used for energy resources that can be easily replaced - regrown. Wood can be grown in new trees, so it would be considered renewable, although it does take time.

hi!

It depends on the source of the timber.

If it comes from a plantation, then it IS renewable because it's pretty easy to plant more trees. Kinda like any farm crop...the difference lies in the fact that trees take a long time to grow.

When it is sourced from an Old Growth or Ancient Forest, that's when there's problems with non-renewability. Forestry departments all across the world are happy to tell us that they will grow back, but in all my years as a forest activist I've never seen an Old Growth forest return to the state it was in prior to harvesting. This is due to the fact that an Old Growth forest is just that. It's OLD! if the harvested forest was left to it's own devices, the climax ecosystem that was there in the first place MAY be able to regenerate, with the best guess at the time frame being in the order of 500 to 1000 years.

Basically, in my humble opinion, we need to leave such places alone. Well and truly. There aren't many such Forests left and there are plenty of tree farms. The difficulty lies in the fact that it's so much simpler - economically speaking - to go into an old Forest for your timber than it is to mess about with growing saplings and waiting the requisite 20 to 50 years before you can harvest them. Nowadays though, there's enough plantations in existence for the tired old argument of "we NEED to log Old Growth" to have fallen flat.

Hope this helps!

Love and Light,

Jarrah

Under certain situations wood can be looked at as a crop. Many forests are managed in a manner where trees are logged, the forest replanted, and allowed to grow for 40-50 years and harvested again.

Prior to logging, forests used to grow, die or be killed by a fire, decompose and a new forest would grow up around the decaying trees.

I do not have an answer for how long forests can regenerate if a good portion of the wood is removed and is no longer decomposing.

I guess we do know that large quantities of coal were created by a similar process, so perhaps it is not necessary to have the whole tree decompose to maintain the capability of the forest to regenerate.

If necessary it may be possible to fertilize as is done with other "crops."

Wood is renewable... Wood comes from trees. If you cut down a tree, you can plant another one. You just renewed the tree.

Wood is a renewable resource. It can grow and replenish itself so it can't run out (unless every seed for every tree in the world were destroyed...)

It is renewable or else we would not be able to plant trees to replace the ones that were previously harvested. Check into publications regarding tree farming for further information.

i belive it is renewable because u can plant trees to make more wood, however if u cut down too many trees u could have a problem b/c trees dont grow that fast.

D. Water, because of the fact each thing else can take place lower back, whether it takes 5 million years (coal). Water can't take place lower back. there is plenty water, in spite of the indisputable fact that, that water isn't usually viewed a nonrenewable source. wish this helps!
