Why or why not?

I don't see how this phrase makes sense; why would good intentions turn into something negative if the motives are good?

That is very much like the saying "Talk is cheap."

Talking ABOUT doing something is a far cry from actually doing it.

Likewise, good intentions are meaningless if not followed by corresponding actions.

I would have to personally disagree with the phrase "the road to hell is paved with good intentions", at least if I am using my personal understanding of the meaning. I have always defined this statemeant as one referring to people who did things and ment well in their actions but the end result were less than favorable. I guess if you see it with the perspective that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" is a reference to people who see something that should be done and intend to do something about it but later chose to ignore the righteous path, then I can possibly agree with one of your previous visitors. But truth be told, I associate this statement with holy rollers who use it to support their claim that good people will go to hell should they not accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and pedophiles murderers will go to heaven as long as they are born again. I'm from the south so maybe it's just my limited view of it all...

I agree with you, however my science teacher says that in Africa, a group of people interested in ending poverty there dug up a huge well full of water. Soon, millions of people came there, and now it's dry. I suppose that could represent that, though it's not considered bad intentions if you only mean to do good and never had any thought about doing bad intentions.

What is "hell" and is there a road or does one just arrive - like that. Religion teaches that "hell" is punishment for deliberate
wrong-doing.
The phrase makes no sense to me. Like "a dollar to a donut" or "what goes around, comes around" are also phrases that people use to sound clever or wise, but make no sense.

It means that people intend to do good things. . . and then they do something else. They dont follow up on what the "intended to do". And they continue to backslide instead of straighten up as they intended. And off to hell they go!

CARMEN,
MANY PEOPLE MAY HAVE GOOD THOUGHTS "INTENTIONS", BUT THEIR ACTUAL ACTIONS CAUSE THEIR ACTUAL BEHAVIOR TO LEAD THEM INTO TROUBLE, aka, 'hell".
