I've been having random mood swings for the last year. I'll be really happy at one point and all of a sudden I can get really angry or agitated. And I can go the other way too.

Also, when I do become agitated I tend to push people away and I feel really bad about it, like my insides are reaching out for them but my body is pushing them away.

My boyfriend thought I might be Bipolar but I don't get 'depressed'. Sometimes I feel like nothing I do is worth anything but I pretty sure everyone feels like this at times.

Basically, any thoughts on why I have constant mood changes? It's also hard to explain to people close to me so I don't. I feel like they won't believe how I'm feeling..... I don't even know how i feel.

BTW, i'm a guy, not a girl. It's not PMS, lol, unless guys get that too?

I thought it might be stress too. But I work a typical 40 hour work week and the last 3 months I've cut that by half or more because I thought it was stress. I felt like I needed a break. But even still I continue to have the mood swings.

The slightest things can trigger it. Someone placing a finger on my shoulder, or asking a stupid or obvious question.

Hi!

It sounds to me as if you have symptoms of bi-polar disorder. I have the same exact symptoms. I didn't know what was wrong with me either. All I knew was that I was pushing the people I loved away. I could not maintain a relationship with anybody because I was so angry and jealous. I isolated myself away from people constantly. One minute I was fine--I wanted to go out--then the next minute, I started getting angry and withdrawn, then I'd start to feel bad about it and expect people to get over my actions, and when they didn't I got mad again, and the cycle continued. Finally, I found a really supportive man who didn't give a damn about how I acted. He encouraged me to see a counselor. From there, I found out I was bi-polar. I told my immediate family, but they didn't believe me. I just take it that they don't understand or they wouldn't expect to have a family member who has mental problems (they're in denial and think it's "a phase").

Mood swings are usually caused by environmental factors or chemical imbalances in the brain. A lot of people have mood swings, but when they're frequent in the same day or week, then bi-polar is a possibility. Mood swings are apparent when people get older, go through traumatic experiences, or through heredity.

If you feel like you need to talk someone, see if you can visit with a counselor or a mental health specialist so you can get the answers that you need. It's a possibility that you may not be bi-polar and just need some minor therapy to get your mood back on track.

I think you're going to be Okay; You are a good, productive citizen--you are NOT crazy--don't listen to that crap because I know you may hear stuff like that; we just have to look over ignorant people...the support that you have,--stick with it and go from there. There are people out there who care about you...Live your life to the fullest and everything will fall into place--just wait and see...

Are you SURE it isn't PMS? keep track. You may still have other problems, and the PMS could be making them worse, but the truth is, some ladies have one heck of a bad time with PMS/PMDD all by itself. I know I get angry easily at this time, and my husbands' two daughters have that (and they don't have any other mental health issues).

I'm not sure if it's bipolar-bipolar behavior is really extreme-if it were untreated, you could be throwing things at him and kicking holes in the wall and stuff. And you'd have super happy times, or super hyper times that feel awful, or have super bad depressions, that hurt beyond anything else. What you describe doesn't sound serious enough to be bipolar.

Sometimes people just get stressed out, too, then they get irritable easier. Like a lot of stress at work, too much overtime, new baby so not getting enough sleep, etc. etc.

Bi-polar can't be dismissed so see a doctor for referral. It could be a range of things but classic bi-polar mood swings are the greatest destroyer of relationships. Involve your partner where you can & feel comfortable so they understand when you are like this.
good luck brother.

It definately sounds like bi-polar minus the depression. I am bi-polar myself, so I know where you're coming from. It definitely couldn't hurt to see a doctor, maybe even a therapist.
