Some great cheap sites are www.discountanabolics.com and www.vitacost.com. If you want to gain weight I recommend IDS Smart Gainer in Vanilla Cinnamon, it tastes wonderful and if you simply just want protein I recommend Optium Nutrition 100% Weigh Gold Standard, it has won many awards for the best all around protein. Please stay away from GNC you will spend way more of your hard earned money than necessary. Protein can be used for both gaining and losing weight, its all in how you use it.

Puritan's Pride, at http://www.puritanspride.com , has the best prices on powdered protein, and other vitamins, that I have found. They often have sales where they advertise "buy one, get 3 free". Right now, I believe that there sale is "buy 2, get 3 free" which is still a good price.
Protein helps build muscle. So if you are skinny, protein powder will help you gain weight by building up muscle. If you are fat, it will help you lose weight by helping build up muscle, and burn fat. Protein is food for muscle, but you need to exercise the muscles, along with taking the protein.

I personally endorse Hammer Nutrition products. Both whey and soy protein formulations are available. http://www.hammernutrition.com/

Protein powder is used to help build muscle mass, so it would help gain weight in that sense. However, more muscle helps you burn fat, so you would lose weight in that sense. Taking protein powder by itself, without using it to supplement a workout, will not be beneficial.

mark foster, the swimming sprint champion has his own company online now for protein drinks. haven't checked his website yet, but the fact that he's been at four olympics(50m free) - and been in the finals, if not won,and 49 international medals, then he must know what he's talkin about. the site is called something 'perfect', he mentioned it on telly today. I'm sure if it comes in powder they'll be able to post. I'm sorry I cant remember the one that i was on when i was swimmming. o and he's a fit, hot lookin guy.

allthewhey.com sells high quality protein powder for pretty reasonable prices. Been buying from them for a long time, they do a good job.
