There is a demon down there. It rapes your dog while you sleep.

Oh this is so sad. Your dog needs to be sleeping near you. He is a pack animal, helpless and in his final years. Make the best of the time that is left and let him sleep with you. You can move the crate nearer to you or try tethering him to your bed with his leash. Dogs don't usually make a mess where they sleep. Crate him when you aren't home to help with the mess and to keep him safe. If he is making a mess where he sleeps, you may need to talk to your veterinarian about other options. There may be a problem that can be solved with medication or it may be time to let your old friend go. No matter what you decide, give him extra attention and love. He has been your loyal friend for years and he needs you now.

Maybe something is wrong with him and he should see the Vet. I know with puppies people suggest putting an alarm clock next to it. The ticking seems to comfort the animal. Of you may want to try this. Fill an air mattress with water to make a dog waterbed. Water is also soothing.

Good luck.

I would crate him, and keep him in your room close to you.
Take to him for awhile, or give him a bone to chew on. I
think the dog just wants to be with you. Maybe if you allow it,
you can have him on the bed with you before you want to
fall asleep, it may be that the dog just needs a little more
TLC.

Something might be hurting inside that he cannot tell you about. An X-ray at the vet might be a good idea. Or maybe he is just missing something or someone...

I wish you the best of luck.

Can't you put a leash on the poor guy and hook it to your wrist while you sleep.. He can sleep on the floor and you'll know if he gets up to leave, but you can both get sleep and the poor guy isn't crying all the time.

Honey, its time for him, unfortunately, to go to sleep. Keeping him alive any longer is almost cruel. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be harsh. But it's true.
