My cousin has spent the last few months (don't know exactly how long) eating only a package of Pop-Tarts for breakfast every morning. He claims that he has lost a good amount of weight by doing this. Is there such thing as a Pop-tarts diet or can his wieght-loss be attributied elsewhere? This man is about 30, and wieghs about 183 pounds, according to him this past Saturday. (Though, after that large piece of cake his sister gave him that day, he probably wieghs a good pound more now. We're talking a good two-to-three servings of cake he ate.)

If he used to eat a larger breakfast and now only eats two plain Pop-Tarts for breakfast, he might be losing weight from that. If I recall correctly from my teen calorie-counting days, a plain strawberry Pop Tart is 110 calories or so. So he's having a 220 calorie breakfast. If he eats the same as he used to the rest of the day, and used to eat a 500 calorie breakfast each day, he's not eating 380 calories that he used to eat, which means he's reducing enough to lose about a pound every 9 days. Of course, Pop Tarts aren't nutritious at all. He'd be better off eating a serving of a healthy cereal that equalled the same calories, and then he'd get vitamins, calcium, fiber, and possibly even some protein (depending on the cereal).

If He's Only Eating A Package Of PoP-Tarts In The Morning, For The Whole Day Then Maybe He Is Losing Weight. That Package Is Probably Around 400-700 Calories. So If That's All He's Consuming, Then He Probably Has Lost Weight, From A Lack Of Calories. He Should Feel Pretty Light Headed And Sick Throughout The Day.

If he has lost weight it is from a combination of exercise and malnutrition. Only eating Pop-tarts means his body is missing out on a lot of nutrients. As breakfast is the most important meal of the day this is even more ludicrous.

the word "diet" is nothing more than that which describes regular eating habits. a person can have a healthy diet or unhealthy diet or anything in between.

most likely your cousin is consuming less calories now than previously. Pop-Tarts provide almost zero nutrition and are highly processed food items. while he may have lost "weight" on the scale I guarantee his body fat is the same as previously. the purpose of "dieting" for weight loss is to maximize fat loss while preserving muscle mass. if the level of body fat is not being reduced the "weight" being lost is a combination of water and muscle mass.

He's losing weight because he's starving himself, not because he's "dieting." He should be eating 2,000-2,500 calories per day and he's only eating about 300 if he eats both PopTarts in the package. Additionally, those are not the most nutritions food item and have more preservatives than vitamins. It'd be better to watch your calories and balance fat, protein, and fiber. He's not getting all of the food groups and is putting his health in jeopardy.

I've heard of it. Just don't do it. There are crazy diets coming out everyday. None of them are any good. So don't fall for these scams, they are dangerous and they don't work.
