I dropped my Sony cyber shot 6.0mp 3xdz and the lenses will come out and in but it will not twist and focus itself. The warranty doesn't cover droppage, anyone know how I can safely and manually focus it? I tried twisting it but it won't budge. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,.

****. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get it fixed? If I took it to some camera repair shop, could they fix it? how much? What if I sent it back to Sony??

You can't do it manually, unless you have a Digital SLR or one from Fuji's Finepix S5200 / S5600 / S6000fd / S6500 / S9000 / S9500 / S9600 Zoom range of cameras.

The only way to fix it is to send it back to SONY, as their repair centre has all the tools + people who know how to poke around inside the focusing mechanism of your particular camera without ending up making it worse.

Take it to Henry's or a similar dedicated camera store. The best is to take it so Sony because if you take it to other stores, they just ship it to Sony, which will take more time. You could try a Sony store for convenience, but try to research a local Sony repair centre if it's possible because they fix stuff in-house so it may be faster than shipping it around. But the damage seems pretty major and it may be more cost efficient to purchase a new camera because camera repairs are not cheap.

Yeah, even the point and shoots that offer "manual" focus that I know about do it by settings from the menu and not by physically moving the lens. It's all done with the little gears inside your camera that you have probably broken. Sorry...

The focus mechanism on most point-and-shoot cameras, including yours, is on the inside of the camera. Therefore, you can't twist or turn anything to focus it manually.
