Don't do the animal shelter if you don't want to clean up after the animals. If you are looking to do your 40 hrs. in one day ask the probation officer they usually have something like cleanup after a storm or something like that.

Please do not do your community service at an Animal Shelter.

I've done Animal Rescue for 30+ years and only the truly dedicated should work with animals. Taking care of animals entails everything from washing the animal, walking the animal, feeding the animal and of course picking up the animal's droppings.

May I suggest that you shovel snow or pick up garbage along the side of the highways in order to serve out your time.

Have a lovely rest of the evening.

I suggest that you contact your local volunteer center. They can connect you with a wide variety of volunteer opportunities that match your interest, and meet real community needs. Some of these projects can be one-time or short-term.

Here are some links to find your local volunteer center:
http://www.handsonnetwork.org/our-network/
http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/find_center.cfm

Volunteer centers provide a connection to various non-profit agencies in your local community. In addition, they can also provide you with the necessary paperwork, signatures, etc. for your community service requirement, whether it be for school, court, etc.
